9 Questions to Ask Before Hiring A Home Cleaning Service by Daleen Qazilbash

For most people, the questions that immediately come to mind are:

  • What are standard house cleaning rates?
  • Is it safe to have cleaners in my home?
  • What do residential house cleaners do?

These are excellent questions, and it is advisable to know the answers before hiring any residential cleaning service. Yet people often overlook the other important questions. You don’t want any surprises! What if your pets are suddenly getting sick from exposure to toxic cleaning products? What if a new cleaner shows up and you don’t have the time to go over everything? Here are nine questions that may help you avoid some common pitfalls when hiring your cleaning company.

1. Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

You want a professional organization looking after your home, someone you can trust with your most precious asset. Custom Cleaning Solutions is local, with ties to the community and a superb reputation. Check out our testimonials!

2. Do you charge a fixed rate, or by the hour? What are the terms of payment?

Custom Cleaning Solutions bills by the hour, and only for the actual time spent (with a two-hour minimum). We don’t round up to the nearest increment or charge for the time typically estimated to perform the job (as a mechanic would). We ask for payment upon receipt of our invoice, issued on cleaning day.

3. How many cleaners per visit, and is it the same cleaner(s) every time?

We prefer to send a singular specialist, and the same one each time. Your cleaner will get to know you and your space, and demonstrate our moniker of custom cleaning! We want to learn your specific needs and move through the area expertly and efficiently. For larger projects, we may sometimes work in a team, but always with the guidance of your cleaner.

4. What is included in a cleaning?

It’s entirely up to you! Custom cleaning means precisely that. We work with you to understand your priorities.

5. What are your sanitary practices? Is it safe for my children and pets?

sanitory-practice

It’s basic hygiene to use disposable items in highly infectious cleaning areas like the toilet. We always wear gloves and use highly effective, well-proven, non-toxic disinfectant sprays. Our cloths and mop heads are always freshly cleaned, and we pay conscientious attention to meticulous sanitary practices.

6. What tools and equipment do you use? Do I have to provide that?

No, Custom Cleaning Solutions uses its own supplies. We utilize various durable, high-quality tools to speed up the process and achieve the best results. Nobody wants equipment to break and cause delays; dollar store supplies are insufficient for our business.

7. What if I have to cancel?

cancellation-policy

We ask for 48 hours’ notice of cancellation. We try to remain flexible, recognizing that unforeseen events will happen (i.e. unexpected illness or emergencies). Still, we reserve the right to charge the two-hour minimum in some cases.

8. Is there anything you won’t clean?

We clean almost anything in the home’s interior, with a few exceptions made for the safety of our staff. For example, we may not clean windows unreachable with a standard 5′ ladder, and feces are not within the scope of our services. Exterior cleaning is handled on a case-by-case basis. For instance, we might clean easily accessible ground-level glass such as normal-sized windows or sliding glass doors.

9. What if I’m not satisfied?

At Custom Cleaning Solutions, we pride ourselves on a job well done and a happy client. However, if you are dissatisfied, we will return within 24 hours to resolve the issue, or offer a discount on your invoice.
