Trauma affects every level of the body. When people experience a traumatic event, they feel as though their minds and bodies have been attacked. As a result, they may be confused, disoriented, or even feel detached from their own bodies. At first, people may try to ignore these feelings. However, this only makes the trauma worse.

In order to heal from trauma, it’s important to talk about what happened, whether it was physical or emotional trauma. Talking about the event is a way to reduce its power over you and show that you’re still in control of your life. Start small, even if you don’t feel ready to share your story at first. Begin by talking about how you’re feeling:
Are you sad?
Physically tired?

Start with simple things like saying “I’m tired” or “I’m hungry” and then slowly work your way up to more difficult topics like going into detail about the traumatic event.

Over time, you will be able to open up and start sharing your true feelings without feeling overwhelmed by them.
