How did I verify the 4 pillars of Well-Being?

 
It was really important to me that I verify my findings through academic research.  I first met with a psychology professor at UBCO and he confirmed that there are decades of academic research confirming that the 4 pillars of Well-Being are BODY | FINANCIAL | MIND | SOCIAL.  Next I connected with a psychology professor and graduate student at UBC in Vancouver.  They again concluded I was on the right track.

Keyla Sereen Ohs understands the journey to health and wellness can be a long and challenging one. As the owner of Sereen Spirit Healing and Retreat Centre, Keyla has lived paths ranging from high-level athletics to imbalanced work choices. She is also keenly aware that our spirit can speak to us and offer guidance, if we are willing to listen to it. 

Ten years ago, Keyla listened to that voice when she realized her life was literally making her sick. While struggling in a job that was causing her anxiety, bodily illness, and blackouts, she had a bad car accident that shook her deeply and made her determined to make some holistic changes to the way she was living. But then, resilience and resolve were nothing new to her.

I have come to realize I have a relationship with art and with cultural events that is central to my sense of well being. As I do in all relationships, I step back and analyze the dynamic with a curious mind.   What I seek from art is a transformation of self. I stand before a painter that was looking at his concept reality in 1400 and I feel as if I have stepped into his very mind. This was the world he inhabited; these were the beauties of mundanity that surrounded him. What appears on the canvas are the objects limiting and expanding his very sense of his own humanity. And it deepens my understanding of what it means to be mortal beyond the boundaries of my own culture, current normative habits and constructs.
